Rampsonwillis Nature Trail
Update 2024: Since clearing the Rampsonwillis we hold two tidy-up sessions, mainly to ensure the path is accessible and not too overgrown. These session usually take place in October and March.
Everyone is welcome to come along and help, we only work for one hour but that is plenty of time, with many hands making light work. If the weather is kind to us, we sit at the picnic table and have refreshments out of a flask or if the weather is not great, Audrey Jones treats us to a cuppa and a saffron bun at her house. It is a jolly affair and good for us to be out in the fresh air.

Before Covid, there was a call for members to do something for nature and our WI decided to clear up a bit of land in Lewdown called Rampsonwillis, which had been donated to the village for the children, to create a Nature Trail. Well, some years later, we finally completed it! We have built & erected bird & bat boxes, cleared up a lot of invasive weeds, installed a picnic bench and planted a rowan tree for the late Queen’s Green Canopy. We plan to create a QR code showing where everything is.
We had our grand unveiling of the tree plaque for the rowan tree on Saturday June 24, 2023 at the Rampsonwillis followed by refreshments at Lewdown Victory Hall. We invited our Federation chair Evelyn Watson, who was delighted & honoured to be invited. It was lovely to meet Evelyn, she was very easy to talk to and very complementary of our efforts. The weather was perfect and everyone who came along had a great time.
